And so, my quest to feature more and more destination weddings continue, as today I have yet another stunning Italian wedding in one of the most sought after wedding locations in the world: Umbria.
If you are not familiar with Italy or its regions, Umbria is one of the greenest regions of Italy, famous for its wines, rich food, historic towns and general friendliness of the people. If you’re looking for a rustic wedding experience, Umbria is the perfect place. With a mix of stunning cathedrals and centuries-old villas, it offers pretty much anything you need and a lot more… perhaps an extended holiday for your guests and a relaxing honeymoon in one of the most romantic places you’ll ever be 🙂
Today’s wedding has kindly been sent to us by Rome-based wedding photographer Claudia of Rossini Photography. Prepare to swoon, because this wedding is just breathtaking….

The groom, Stefano, is the owner of a fancy wine shop in Rome, and Paola, the bride, is an architect who loves sipping a glass of good wine while reading a book on her sofa like nothing else in the world!
They’ve always dreamt of celebrating their wedding in a vineyard, and the Italian countryside offers so many options! In the end they chose Orvieto, in Umbria, which seemed the perfect solution: they had the opportunity to get married in the magnificent cathedral which towers over the ancient medieval town, plus they found the perfect venue for the reception, Decugnano dei Barbi, which is a well known vineyard producing excellent local white and red wines.
Decugnano dei Barbi is also what Italians call ‘agriturismo’, a farm which reserves part of its space and activities to work as an hotel. The concept of ‘agriturismo’ is becoming very popular because it is one of the most authentic ways to experience the countryside: you live in a farm, you enjoy the place, you eat meals prepared with ingredients grown within the farm. And when the place is in such a beautiful and uncontaminated area as the countryside surrounding Orvieto, then the experience is superb.
On the wedding day everything was perfect – the bride looked stunning in her bespoke dress made by Angelo, a family friend. The styling were carefully thought out by the wedding planner Laura Serventi. The wedding theme colours were lilac, green and white. The floral design was done by a local flower shop, L’Erbavoglio, who decorated the tables with natural herbs and spices.
The guests enjoyed a meal of organic food prepared by the farm restaurant. Local dishes, from excellent cheese and ham tastings, to spaghetti all’ammatriciana, were served accompanied by local red and white wines produced in the farm’s wineyard!
And perfect ending to a perfect day….the groom was thrown in the swimming pool!
