Honeymoon idea | Diving in Fiji + city break in Hong Kong, by Jane Haglund

Good morning lovers! As I’m sure you’ve noticed from my posts in the past two months and my Facebook updates, I’ve caught the travel bug and can’t stop thinking about holidays. Needless to say this has made me even more receptive to any travel / honeymoon photography submissions I’ve received. I have some great honeymoon destination ideas coming on the blog in the next month, but today I’m thrilled to share the images and experience of Swedish wedding photographer Jane Haglund (no stranger to Linen and Silk readers, as her work was featured before), who had a fanstatic honeymoon with her hubby Robin in Fiji and Hong Kong.

Jane has kindly given us some of her tips for a honeymoon to this destination, so if you are stuck for ideas, read on! And thank you Jane for your advice!

For our honeymoon we chose to skip the crowd and went to the northern island Vanua Levu, which many people refer as “the real Fiji”. First we rented a house outside of the small town Savusavu, The Pod House at Fiji Beach Shacks. What a lovely stay! It was just us, the sun and the sea and we enjoyed every second of it.

Our second stay was at Koro Sun Resort, where the American Bachelorette has been recorded. It was a nice resort and we went there primarily for the diving with Koro Sun Dive. We went scubadiving for as much as we could and the diving is quite remarkable, especially at the Namena Reserve. We saw dolphins, wales, sharks, fish and a stunning coral life. We had nice meals, met wonderful people, went for massages and explored the jungle and waterfalls. Fiji treated us well. The people are just amazingly nice and warm. We always felt welcomed and safe.

On our way back to Sweden we had a few days in Hong Kong. A cool town! We went for shopping, exploring and nice meals with stunning views. Here are all our tips:

Fiji

1: ALWAYS put your most valuable stuff that you really CAN’T live without in the carry on luggage. We lost our bags for 8 days due to the mishap in London (actually our flight out from Sweden was 2,5 hours delayed, so we missed our connection)… In our bags were for example some camera gear for UW-photos (and therefore we missed some of the best shots under water on the first dives where we couldn’t bring the camera gear down), chargers, clothes (of course) etc.

2: Explore! Don’t be afraid to take the more unknown tracks! Fijans are extremely friendly and we never felt unsafe anywhere.

3: Go diving! The world down under in Fiji is just amazing. If you’re not a scuba diver already, there are lots of opportunities to get a certificate.

4: Take some time. If we were to redo our trip, we would have taken some extra days and would have moved around a bit more.
