One of my very first posts on Linen & Silk was about exotic weddings vs. home weddings. As you may have read at the time, I’m a bit reluctant to recommend exotic weddings where you just pay the hotel/venue a fee to let them organise all details from beginning to end. I recently witnessed a wedding on the Seven Miles beach in Negril by a really popular premium hotel where the wedding party had to take pictures on a small corner of the beach among sunbathers. And when I say ‘a small corner’, I really mean a small corner. I felt so sorry for the lovely couple. I guess one of the many reason to have a beach wedding is to be able to take stunning pictures in a picture perfect landscape, but with sunbathers less than 2 meters away, I wondered how close up the photographer had to shoot. I felt that putting all your trust in a hotel to organise the whole affair could be a big gamble. It may be cheaper than a £20k wedding in the UK, but are you really getting such a good deal?

Recently, however, I had the pleasure of corresponding with a Thailand based wedding planner called Lesley Chittayanon. Lesley is originally from the UK, but has lived in Thailand for almost ten years and has founded Krabi-based company Tropical Weddings (Thailand), which specialises in planning and coordinating beach and island weddings, onboard yachts and at private villas. As a British wedding planner based in Thailand, Lesley is a useful contact for couples wishing to marry overseas. Her extensive knowledge of the local area and travel industry allows her to offer valuable advice, make honest recommendations and allow couples to relax in the knowledge that their wedding is in the hands of a professional English-speaking planner who fully understands the concept of a Western wedding.

Lesley has kindly given us some words of wisdom and information about organising weddings in Thailand and about the services Tropical Weddings (Thailand) offer:

Thailand’s island beaches lend a truly idyllic location for a destination wedding. White sand, sparkling sea and lush nature provide a stunning backdrop, while the warm glow of the setting sun adds romantic ambience to the setting. Aside from the glorious weather and beautiful scenery, there are many other elements which make Thailand a fantastic destination for a wedding. The country’s delectable cuisine, sumptuous resorts, luxurious spa culture and world-renowned hospitality add to the country’s undeniable appeal. The islands off the coast of Krabi are within easy reach of the mainland by speedboat, yet they seem like a million miles from reality. With warm, sugary white sand underfoot and the gentle lapping of the sparkling water providing the perfect soundtrack, this is a truly romantic way to seal your love forever.

When organizing a destination wedding, hiring a wedding planner who is on the ground at your chosen location is absolutely essential. {Please take note!} We offer a variety of packages, but as every wedding is different, there are a wide range of additional options available, so you can fine-tune your wedding to perfection.

Sunset beach weddings are by far the most popular style of wedding ceremony. The ambient lighting is incredibly flattering and the vibrant sunsets make for spectacular photographs, while the balmy evening air is perfect for a reception dinner under the stars. After the ceremony, the newlyweds set sail on a romantic sunset cruise around the many beautiful islands and islets, then return to the mainland for an al fresco wedding reception dinner. A host of entertainment can be incorporated into your ceremony and reception, ranging from a trio of traditional Thai dancers to DJs and live bands. Other options include classical musicians, fireworks, fire dancers and ice sculptors.

Our team is dedicated to providing a highly personalised service, and we aim to bring all your ideas to life. However you visualize your special day, we will tailor every last detail to ensure it exceeds your expectations. From the pre-planning stages right through to the event itself, we are easily contactable by email and Skype seven days per week {we like peace of mind!}, and always aim to reply to your email with 24 hours.
