Fiji Wedding, Tamara Nicole, Wedding Planner, DIY WeddingLast week I posted a comment on another blog about how hard it is to get real wedding submissions. Just a few hours later I received this lovely submission by wedding coordinator Tamara Nicole. Tamara has a different problem from mine: her submissions don’t always get accepted. I won’t be criticising other bloggers for refusing submissions, because I’m sure everyone has their own reasons, but when someone takes the time to send me such lovely images and give you as much information as possible, then I won’t say no.
This couple, Destiny and Fili, got married in Des Moines, WA, and celebrated in true Samoan style. I have a few Samoan friends myself, and I know that when they party, they seriously party! And when you see these pictures, you’ll see exactly what I mean.
Tamara has kindly given us her account of the day:
What a great atmosphere! Destiny and Fili and all of their loved ones truly are about respect and fun. Family and traditions are huge to these cultures, and that shined throughout the whole wedding day! To show you how important people, family and friends are to this lovely couple, look at their bridal party – 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen!

The ceremony was an intimate event held at Fili’s family’s local Samoan church. Everyone was in tears as Destiny’s mom walked her down the aisle. The look on Fili’s face says it all. These two are truly in love, getting married signifies not only their union, but the union of the families, cultures and traditions.

Destiny and her friends did a lot of the DIY touches. They put together the bamboo favors with labels, picked up flowers from the local Seattle’s Pike Place Market the morning of, and the wedding coordinator Tamara tied the bouquets and made the boutonnieres from these local flowers. Destiny also purchased her jewelry and hair accessory from an Etsy shop.

The reception for 400 guests was held at the Highline Community College overlooking the water. There was a nice stage area set up for all of the amazing dance performances (which are dear to Destiny’s heart, as she has been dancing her whole life and one of the performing companies she was a member of!). They had Fili’s older brother, a Samoan “elder” lead the night’s events as an MC. They went through several traditions of presenting mats and gifts to those that have traveled from afar (Samoa, etc).

The whole entire Reception was so lively, colorful and fun! From the singing and dancing performances of both Mexican and Samoan cultures were spectacular. Destiny even joined in with her old dancing company in her wedding dress and stole the show!

During the first dance the couple was all smiles as Destiny was singing in Fili’s ear. It was a moment as if no one was around them and they were alone, even though there were 400 on-lookers.

The group sure did know how to have a good time, and the dance floor was full the whole night.

What a sweet couple that is loved by so many; it was a pleasure to be a part of their day!

Thank you Tamara, Destiny and Fili for allowing us to showcase this gorgeous wedding! We wish you all a lot of happiness!
